Directing: Edward Albee

Taos Theatre Company, Taos Plaza Theatre, Taos, New Mexico, 1978

See Samuel Beckett.

This was the only time I directed an Albee play. I also designed the lighting for Maurice Lord’s production of “The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?” in Santa Barbara in 2006. I had seen “The Goat” at ART in Portland and not liked it: there was too much screaming and the loving marriage was not convincing. Maurie’s interpretation, with brilliant performances by Leslie Gangl Howe and Robert Lesser, persuaded me that it is a great play and reaffirmed my respect for Albee’s courage and skill.
